Old Navy Jeans Are My Fashion Staple - Which Pair is Best for You?

Which Pair is Right For You?

You will be happy to know that even if you are a plus-sized person, you can still benefit from the wide range of styles. Old Navy offers jeans up to size 20. Old Navy has also figured out that plus-sized women come in all heights. Thus, there are varying lengths for the styles listed. Women with fuller hips and midriff may want to avoid skinny styles, as more attention will be drawn upward to the midsection. To create a more streamlined effect, choose Boot Cut lengths, in washes that are more monochromatic. But fuller-sized women need not feel that they must be resigned to dark colors. Faded washes look fabulous. But look for cuts that give a bit more support in the waist, and room in the hips. Women with boyish figures look great in wide-leg styles. Thus, "The Goddess" line of Old Navy jeans is perfect for those looking to emulate some of Spring's hottest trends. Classic rise jeans in "The Sweetheart" line compliment virtually all shapes. But very short women should avoid boxy styles, settling on the petite versions with an appropriate inseam.

Old Navy Jeans Are My Fashion Staple - Which Pair is Best for You?

Because I was also searching for jeans with 110% sex appeal, I searched the piles for a pair of dark wash skinny jeans (all the rage with celebs) and landed upon Old Navy's Lowest Rise Skinny "The Diva", in a "Rinse" color. This color is a dark blue, and the material feels a bit stiffer
than the other pairs, with just a slight tinge of spandex for elasticity. Sliding these jeans over my hips, I fell in love instantly. They fit snugly, but without pinching. Additionally, I was surprised at how long they fell. For a tall woman who happens to wear heels, it's important that the skinny jean fall at the right length. I will admit that on me, these jeans happen to look better with ballerina flats, or with a pair of hot boots. In any event, even after several washes, these jeans never lose their shape. They snap back to their original form, as if they'd been purchased brand new. These are the dungarees I reserve for evening outings, and other instances when I want to turn on a hint of sex appeal; calling these jeans "The Diva" is right on point. (Note: All of the aforementioned styles cost only $29.50 per pair.)

The Test

Choosing Old Navy to suit my "dungaree" demands, I stopped in and tried on a few pairs of their long variety. Longing for a pair of perfectly fitting boot cut jeans, I picked up a pair of their classic rise boot cut jeans in a soft, Dark Authentic wash. Trying these jeans on, I was delighted at how comfortably they fit. But additionally, they were long enough, even in a size 8, for my long legs. The waist sits comfortably above the hips, without making me feel as if I'm wearing "Mom jeans." I wear these with casual blouses and sweaters, and have found that these are sublime for routine errands or casual day at work. Wearing them a few times loosens the fit; but the elastic touch helps them snap right back into shape after a wash and dry.For my weekend outings with friends, or for a day of shopping, I wear the boot cut variety of "The Flirt" in what Old Navy calls a faded, "whiskered" wash. These jeans are absolutely fabulous because they are sporty enough for evening wear, but casual enough for other social outings. The jeans' low rise feels very sexy on the hips. But the boot cut fit on bottom gives the jeans a slightly rustic appeal.

Old Navy Jeans Are My Fashion Staple - Which Pair is Best for You?

In the past, Old Navy and The Gap appear to have carried similar styles. Their clean lines and nautical influences have made them favorites amongst teens and college students. But over time, one chain more than the other seems to have put a bit more consideration into adult women's styles---especially jeans. Evidence of this rests even in the names that the manufacturers choose for their styles of jeans. Where Gap jeans are named specifically according to size and shape, Old Navy Jeans are named with a bit more feminine flair. With flourishes like "Diva", "Flirt", and "Sweetheart", it's quite easy to feel especially girly while wearing them. In perusing the website, there is one thing that I noticed immediately: the price. Gap jeans cost considerably more than Old Navy jeans. In fact, the average difference is approximately $20, with some jeans priced at $30 dollars more than Old Navy Jeans. Additionally, while the online store looks quite similar (in terms of models and displays), I noticed that over all, the GAP jeans appear boxy, and quite "square" across the front, while Old Navy jeans for women seem slightly more imaginative, with a vast array of washes and styles..

Old Navy Jeans Are My Fashion Staple - Which Pair is Best for You?

There are few jean manufacturers outside of Levi's that actually serve me and my long legs well. In most stores, if the jeans are long enough for me, then they are too baggy along the hips. Con
sequently, many jeans I try on that fit well in the hips and thighs, are either too baggy in the knees, or too short overall. Women's body types range so greatly that it is often difficult to find that perfect pair---the pair that fits like a glove, time and time again, even after several washes. Enter the stage, Old Navy. This chain of stores specializes in reasonably priced, yet stylish wardrobe pieces, many of which can be worn once that year's "fashion season" ends. In particular, Old Navy appears to have done extensive research on what women want and need in a pair of jeans. For this reason, the last several pairs of dungarees (I like the word "dungarees") I have purchased have come from this store. If you've ever tried on a pair, then you will understand why...
